The Verum team has experience successfully advancing material tax and fiscal policy reforms at all levels of government, including municipalities, provincial and federal governments. Examples include: oil & gas royalties; capital cost allowance schedules; liquidity and access to capital; enabling surety for environmental liabilities, carbon capture/ clean tech funding; municipal assessment valuation; municipal mill rate policies and legislation; business and non-residential tax consolidation; and new revenue tools for tourism-based communities.   

Our team has considerable experience developing oil & gas policy and addressing regulatory issues and challenges - for both oil sands and the conventional/ unconventional sectors.  Areas of focus include: taxes, royalties and economic competitiveness; GHG emissions reduction requirements and technologies; provincial regulatory processes and efficiencies; oil sands environmental monitoring, land use and mine closure; ESG performance; and market access/security of supply/production; . 

Verum brings a wealth of knowledge to the municipal finance and governance sphere and has published and consulted widely in this area. Our experience includes: directly participating in drafting municipal legislation; working with municipalities to develop tax and development policies for their communities; identifying new revenue sources and tools for municipalities; and working with municipal associations, provinces, think tanks and business associations to strengthen the municipal economic and business environment - both locally and provincially.

Verum has worked with a variety industry associations and sectors including Tourism, Manufacturing, Oil & Gas, Chambers of Commerce and Homebuilders. We can assist in developing and advancing sectoral economic, public policy and government affairs strategies locally, provincially and federally. 

The Verum team has worked with Indigenous organizations, industry and federal and provincial governments to understand barriers and advance strategies to strengthen Indigenous economic prosperity, labour market participation and educational outcomes. We have experience working with businesses and community groups in urban centres, and with communities directly.

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance is a top priority for business and government. Our team has experience leading the ESG strategy for the upstream oil & gas industry and can apply this expertise to any industry. Our approach includes setting ESG priorities, benchmarking performance, and navigating reporting frameworks and requirements.
